Gui Zhi Tang and Its Modifications

Have you been interested in delving more deeply into the Shang Han Lun, but you weren’t sure how to begin? Gui zhi is one of the most important herbs in the Shang Han Za Bing Lun. And Gui zhi tang is modified in so many ways for a huge variety of presentations. In this class, we will discuss the herb and formula in detail and most of its modifications and uses throughout the Shang Han Lun and Jin Gui Yao Lue. Most of us learned about its uses for wind- cold conditions, but to understand how to use it most effectively it’s helpful to exploring the meanings of the lines of the text to apply it clinically. Over six classes we will see how it functions in many different circumstances affecting the great sweeping motions of the six conformations. Through visual models, looking at the lines from the text, and lots of cases, it will be an entryway into these classics with lots of practical clinical usefulness.

Class will be held on the following Fridays from 11am – 2pm EST

1/13, 1/27, 2/10, 2/24, 3/10 and 3/24

Classes will also be recorded and available for students who cannot attend live.

Sally has been practicing since 1998 and she has focused on classical herbal medicine for more than 15 years. In 2016 she founded the Shen nong Society to provide an opportunity for practitioners of East Asian herbal medicine a time to gather together at an annual conference in order to share insights and information pertaining to our field.

She has studied with Sharon Weizenbaum, Yaron Seidman, Ed Neal and many other teachers. She has found that understanding the principles of the great sweeping motions clarifies clinical issues with many patients. Initially after TCM school, there were complex cases that she found confusing to address; as she deepened her understanding of the classics, she was able to refine her diagnostic skills and help people with complicated conditions. By studying the basic formulas and seeing how they are the root of most other formulas, she has learned the intricacies of formula modification. She loves teaching and mentoring to help other practitioners increase their understanding and knowledge of diagnostic principles , formulas and formula modification through the lens of the six conformations and the circular cycles of life based in yin/ yang principles.
