COURSE DETAILS

14 Week  Online Course beginning on September 8th
Meets Mondays from 12 – 1:30pm

Translators need community. Every writer knows that you may do the typing alone, but you can’t make your make your work the best it can be without the help of others. Working with others will take your translation to a new level, and critiquing and receiving critique is the best way to develop your skill as a translator.

This worksop will give participants the community they need. Each participant will have multiple opportunities to present their work and receive feedback from their fellow participants and detailed suggestions from the instructor, Stephen Boynton. We will also discuss the resources to use when you get stuck on a translation and some of the classics of translation theory. Although our focus will be on medical texts, participants are welcome to bring in any Chinese text they are working on.

This workshop is intended for people with intermediate to advanced knowledge of Classical or modern Chinese, but you do not need to have any experience translating to join. If you’re uncertain whether this course would be a good fit for you, reach out to Stephen at stephenboyanton@icloud.com for a personal evaluation.
