Four Hour Series

Live Sessions January 29th and February 26

For many acupuncturists trained in TCM, discovering Japanese acupuncture opens an entirely new way of thinking about diagnosis, palpation, technique and treatment—but figuring out how to actually learn it can be surprisingly difficult. In this two-part series, Maya Suzuki draws from her experience completing acupuncture school and national licensure in Japan, studying within multiple Japanese traditions, and teaching more than 80 practitioners from around the world in to explore what learning Japanese acupuncture actually entails. Participants will learn how acupuncture is taught and licensed in Japan, the realities of studying there as a foreign practitioner, and how several major Japanese acupuncture traditions differ in philosophy and clinical application.

The second session examines the often-overlooked gap between being introduced to Japanese techniques and becoming confident enough to use Japanese acupuncture coherently in practice. Through clinical and practitioner case examples, Maya will explore why studying techniques—or even studying in Japan—is rarely sufficient on its own, and why mentorship, feedback and sustained clinical integration are essential to moving from TCM training toward genuine fluency in Japanese acupuncture.

INSTRUCTOR

Maya Suzuki

I have helped countless acupuncturists through mentorship and tried and true methods to get better results with every needle and cone of moxa and have confidence in their treatment approach and application.

After years of coordinating and translating for international acupuncturists learning Japanese acupuncture, I noticed a strong trend: Acupuncturists, trained outside of Japan, spend over $10,000 and decades just trying to learn Japanese style treatment.

The problem is that most never really create a strong foundation for that knowledge, and they very rarely, if ever, have a mentor to shape their learning. I started ShinKyu University to change all that.

I was very fortunate in my education. I have had excellent teachers and a community who has guided me, even before I entered acupuncture school. I still am involved with my study group in Japan, Iyashi No Michi, and have a mentor to ask questions. To repay my teachers’ teachings, I have decided to fill in the gaps of the TCM education and create a lifetime mentorship and membership program called: ShinKyu University.

Outside of my professional life of running a pediatric and perinatal focused clinic, BumbleBee AcuTherapy and teaching via ShinKyu University, I am also I mom of four amazing kids and love riding my mustang, Apollo, whitewater kayaking, and traveling the world.
