2 Hour Class

2 Ethics CEUs NCCAOM and California

Tuesday, February 25 from 1 – 3pm EST
Also available as a recording

Chinese medical clinicians have relied on Daoist and Confucian principles as a framework for their professional ethics since the 5th to 6th century BCE. This workshop will explore those principles and their impacts on individuals as well as a society as a whole.

We will then focus on the benefits the principles can provide for both the clinician as well as the patient. We will learn the critical role self-cultivation practices play in maintaining these principles. Finally, we will investigate how these timeless guidelines can be specifically applied in the modern clinic by examining case studies in small groups with instructor feedback.

Toby received his undergraduate degree in Food Science from the California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo. He began studying Chinese medicine in 1997 with Sunim Doam, a Korean monk trained in the Saam tradition. During his four years of training in San Francisco, he interned with the prominent acupuncturist Dr. Angela Wu and learned to apply the lofty theories he was studying in school into the pragmatic setting of a busy clinic. In 2013, he developed the Chinese Nutritional Strategies app to provide digital access to the wealth of Chinese dietary wisdom. In 2016, he completed a PhD in Classical Chinese Medicine under the guidance of 88th generation Daoist priest Jeffery Yuen.  His current focus is on sharing his 20 years of clinical experience with the Saam tradition.
