16 CEUs Pending NCCAOM Provider # 278
This course has been approved by the California Acupuncture Board,
Provider Number 679, for 16 hours of continuing education.

This in-person hands-on workshop is open for anyone who has taken the online Fukushin course in the past. I want you to feel confident about your palpation skills so that you can better diagnose, treat and care for your patients. This two day workshop will complete your trainings in Fukushin. I hope to meet some of you in person, finally!

The class is limited to 12 students so that Kumiko has plenty of time to work with each individual on their techniques.

Day 1:  We will focus on checking everyone’s technique and findings.

Day 2:  We will focus on charting abdominal findings and writing formulas for each other to practice. The second day will be like a “clinic day” during which we will have time to do intake if students prefer to do so, match symptoms and patterns with abdominal findings and write formulas for practice.

  • This class is for those who have taken the Fukushin course (at least Parts A and B of Kumiko’s course) or for those who are currently enrolled in a class.
  • Students have only taken introduction (Part A) and would like to attend the in-person workshop must complete registration for Part B.  It is not required to finish watching all videos of Part B before the workshop.
  • Students who have have not taken the online course must register for the on-demand online course and complete Part A before attending the hands-on workshop.

Kumiko Shirai

I grew up in Japan, but moved to the States at 14 years old with my parents to study English. Influenced by my mother, Taiji master Machiko Shirai, I learned to appreciate Asian medicine and martial arts from an early age. I studied Aikido for twenty five years and currently practice Taiji. I attended Oregon State University (OSU) where I majored in Chinese Studies and graduated with a Bachelor in Science. I then enrolled in the School of Classical Chinese Medicine at the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) in Portland, where I earned my Masters in Science of Oriental Medicine. In 2021, I earned Doctorate of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (OCOM).

Beside acupuncture, I specialize in classical herbal medicine in which I received rigorous training in the Han-dynasty style of Chinese herbal prescriptions. I also specialize in Japanese abdominal diagnosis, also known as Fukushin.

I have a private practice in Portland, Oregon and teach Abdominal Diagnosis seminars privately. I am also a part time faculty at OCOM.
